Wolf Theater: Cliff & Jayson
On November 30th, 2010, Jayson Werth declined an arbitration offer from the Philadelphia Phillies. That ended a four year stint with the ball club in hopes of signing a long-term, big-money contract. He succeeded in his quest when he shocked the baseball world and signed with the Washington Nationals, the cellar-dweller of the same division as the Phillies, on Sunday December 5th, 2010. The deal? A healthy $126 Million dollars over seven years. That’s a pretty penny. Then, in a shocking turn of events, Cliff Lee, one of Werth’s best friends, decided to bypass more lucrative deals and re-join the Phightin’s. This must have angered Jayson. Werth has publicly stated that Lee hadn’t informed him of that decision, or even mentioned the chance of it. Jayson was visibly upset. The following clip provides a chance to see what most likely took place the first time Cliff and Jayson caught up.
The great thing about this video, even though only speculation, it is probably word for word correct. Everything tossed out in this clip ran through both Jayson and Cliff’s minds after all the dealings took place. Not to mention, being a Philadelphia fan myself, I thought about all of the scenarios as well. Many different aspects of Philly sports are placed perfectly into this “conversation” and may seem mediocre in humor to some. But to people who know the situation and all the goings-on around it, this is comedic genius.
