Man (Not Named Forrest Gump) Runs Across the U.S.

Dean Karnazes!  That is the name of the man who ran across the entire United States of America.  Starting in Disneyland California, where he lives in the San Francisco bay area, and ending in a Manhattan TV studio during the show Live! With Regis and Kelly.

Teamed up with the Live! show, the 48-year-old runner traveled over 3,000 miles and ran through 16 states and the District of Columbia.  During the run he participated in many 5K’s across the U.S. and collected $177, 865 for charities.  He averaged 40 to 50 miles per day, running anywhere from 8 to 15 hours a day.  He also ran through 50 pairs of shoes during the journey.  When asked about the long run he said the worst moment of the run was after the first day and the best moment was arriving in the studio at the end.  Karnazes also said, “Running 3,000 miles doesn’t tell the whole of it.  The weather conditions, the mountains, the desert; I mean, it was just intense!”  I bet it was!  The long trek took him 75 days.

He is a Mega-Marathoner who came in well qualified to accomplish this feat.  He is a fitness advocate who had previously run 50 marathons in 50 days, in all 50 states.  That is no small feat in itself!  He has also written a book called Run! 26.2 Stories of Blisters and Bliss.  Dean is a real-life Forrest Gump!  When you are working hard and think you don’t have the strength to go on, think about what Dean did and suck it up!  He must have felt that way over 100 times during this journey but he kept to it and finished what he started.  This guy is what strength, a strong will, and endurance are all about.  Young people across the country can look up to him.  Just an average, no-name guy who did something extraordinary!
